Om Jai Jagdish Hare

ॐ जय जगदीश हरे

Hindi aarti composed by Pandit Shardha Ram Phillauri (1837–1881) around 1870

The best-loved aarti of North India, sung to the Lord of the universe as the lamp is waved. It is a prayer of complete surrender: You are mother and father, the indweller of every heart; remove my faults and increase my faith, devotion and service.

Shown in its compact printed form. When sung, the second half of each first line is usually repeated with “Swami”, the refrain “Om Jai Jagdish Hare” returns after every verse, and a few words differ between aarti books.

  1. 1 Refrain

    ॐ जय जगदीश हरे, स्वामी जय जगदीश हरे।

    oṁ

    You remove

Om, glory to You, Lord of the universe, O Hari; glory to You, Master. You remove the troubles of Your devotees in an instant.

  2. 2

    जो ध्यावे फल पावे, दुःख बिनसे मन का।

    सुख सम्पति घर आवे, कष्ट मिटे तन का॥

jo dhyāve phal pāve, duḥkh binase man kā |

sukh sampati ghar āve, kaṣṭ miṭe tan kā ||

    whoever
    dhyāve
    meditates on You
    phal pāve

    perishes
    man kā
    of the mind
